Hi Dancers,
Welcome to September! This is our most exciting month yet because it’s concert enrolments season!
DanceCBR Wrap-Up
But first… What a weekend! DanceCBR was such a wonderful event to be part of and our dancers showed up and absolutely shone. I am so incredibly proud of every single one of you who participated, you represented 6P and all things adult dance beautifully. A huge thank you also to the teachers and support crew who made it all happen behind the scenes. You are all rockstars.
Of Myth and Magic!
We have a whole world of myth, magic, legends and a little bit of the extraordinary waiting to come to life - and we can’t wait to see our dancers become part of it. Whether you’re returning to the stage or joining us for your very first 6P concert, we’d love to have you there.
This is your friendly but firm reminder: if you are performing in Of Myth and Magic, please make sure your concert enrolment and costumes are locked inASAP or by Sunday 6th September. We cannot hold places or order costumes without confirmed enrolments, and there are some deadlines approaching that we cannot extend. If you are unsure whether you have everything sorted, please check in with us now rather than later. The last thing we want is for anyone to miss out!
Drop-In Classes During Concert Season
A quick reassurance for those of you not involved in the concert: drop-in classes are still running throughout the concert period, so your dancing time is not going anywhere! Head to the Concert Term timetable to check what's on and get your bookings in via the Momence app as usual.
Pausing Your Subscription During Concert Period
For those of you who have been in touch about this already — thank you for being so organised! As most subscription holders will have seen in their recent email, if you are stepping back from classes during the concert preparation period, you are welcome to pause your subscription via an email to us. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any follow-up questions.
Floriade — Come and Watch Us!
If you haven't already heard, we will be performing at Floriade and you do not want to miss it: Saturday 12th September, 4pm at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park.
Floriade is always such a magical backdrop with the flowers, ferris wheel, fairy floss and of course gorgeous dancers! Bring your friends, your family, your neighbours — the more the merrier. A picnic rug and the nearby food trucks are all you need for a fabulous afternoon.
A Word On Levels
This is something I have been wanting to talk about for a while, and I think now is a great time to bring it up. Dance is not like a gym program or a sport where you complete a set of sessions and then progress to the next stage. It just doesn't work that way, and that's not a reflection on you - it's simply the nature of the art form because that’s what it is: ART!
In dance, moving through levels is about the quality of your technique, your body awareness, your musicality, and your consistency - not the amount of time you have been attending. One year of classes is a wonderful start, and you should be incredibly proud of everything you have built in that time. But it does not automatically mean you are ready to move up, and staying in your current level is never something to feel embarrassed about. In fact, the dancers who spend real time mastering the foundations are always the ones who surprise themselves the most when they do move up.
If you are curious about where you sit and whether progression might be on the horizon for you, please have a chat with your teacher. They are the best people to give you honest, kind, and informed feedback - and they genuinely love having those conversations with you.
Staff Movements and New Faces
We have some exciting staffing news coming your way! Over the coming weeks, you will notice some new teachers trialling in classes across the studio. I am not quite ready to make formal announcements just yet, but I did not want anyone to be caught off guard when a new face walks in to take your class. Please do what you always do and make them feel incredibly welcome — our community's warmth is one of the things new teachers comment on most, and it means the world to all of us.
Emily
As many of you already know, Em has been offered a full-time position! Congrats, Em! While Em has been a long time member of 6th Position’s admin team (and will absolutely still be teaching, don’t worry!), when she’s not wearing her big-girl-office-pants, she’s now just working on socials and the occasional concert to-do item, if she has time. Please try to refrain from interrupting her work day or nights off unless it’s absolutely urgent and you can’t get onto the studio first.
Veronica
Veronica has also accepted a full-time position with Feel Better Pilates, congrats V! I will be replacing her with one of the new teachers I’m hiring…. watch this space!
Brooke
My lovely sister (no bias at all there!) is joining our tiny admin team, you may occassionally recieve an email from her instead of me - welcome Brooke!

Tahlia's Book
I have to finish with something that genuinely stopped me in my tracks this month. Our very own Tahlia has handmade, written and illustrated a Nutcracker book, and it is absolutely stunning.
This is the kind of thing that reminds me why I do what I do. The creativity, the love and the effort that has gone into it is extraordinary, and I am so proud to be part of a community that supports humans like Tahlia. Billy immediately worked on digitising it because it’s so precious. Have a look for yourself here.
