Studio News - November 2025

Hi dancers!

What a busy month it’s been at the studio - nicely wrapped up by our AMAZING concert!

Concert Recap

Last weekend, 6th Position held its 6th annual concert, ‘Carnivale’. With over 130 students participating this year and 2 sold-out performances, it was our biggest concert yet. We are so proud of everything our dancers achieved on stage. Below is a very small selection of photos, just to get the dancers excited all over again! These will be sent out soon - I just have to sort a cool 11,000 shots - thanks a bunch Billy!

And of course, a big congratulations to our award winners on the day. Each year, 6th Position awards a dancer from the beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced levels, presenting each one with a $500 voucher to continue dancing the following year. This year, we had a record number of nominations from our teaching staff, which made it extremely hard!

So, a HUGE congratulations to;

Beginner - Linda Nicholson

Elementary - Ami Wallace

Intermediate - Bee Kelly

Advanced - Melissa Milward

Concert Viewing Party!

A reminder (if you haven’t already) to get your RSVP’s in for our Concert Viewing Party next week! This party welcomes all concert cast members, volunteers and choreographers; you should have received the RSVP link already. RSVP’s will need to close by 5pm Wednesday 3rd December in order for us to confirm catering. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get together, enjoy some drinks and canapés, and watch all their hard work reach its completion - on the big screen!

Xmas Week & Summer Series is back!

It’s almost the end of the year, which means it’s almost the end of our regular timetable. But don’t worry, there is still A LOT to look forward to!

The week 15th-21st December will be filled with our annual Xmas-themed classes, with a schedule to be released in the coming weeks. This is a great tradition at 6th Position - whether you’re doing a regular dance class to some daggy Xmas tunes or learning something exciting in a workshop, it’s a week not to be missed!

I am also happy to announce that our Summer Series schedule is now live! After the success of the Summer Series last year, I knew we couldn’t deprive you of receiving your dance fix over Summer. Happily, I have had so many teachers willing to keep working this year, it’s looking like a really great series! By week 4, it’s only a slightly reduced schedule.

This year’s Summer Series will run from December 22nd to January 18th - and don’t worry, we’ll make sure the air-con stays on! We also have PLENTY of availability from our teaching staff for private lessons; so if you have some dance goals you’re hoping to meet, now is the time to book them in.

Regular Timetable and Open Day

We are currently working with our teaching staff to finalise both our 2026 Timetable and the timetable for our Open Day on Sunday 18th January. A day of FREE taster classes - yes you read that right! - it’s often one of our most popular days of the year. If you’re an exisiting 6th Position student, we encourage you to get that friend who always says they want to try us, into the studio! If you’re a regular you can try a higher level that you’re hoping to move up to for free - otherwise we always run a sale on class passes for our regulars! Which you may want to take advantage of…

Changes to Pricing for 2026

While it’s been a busy few years at 6th Position with rapid growth, including brand new studios and highly trained teachers, it has been several years since our pricing has changed. We wanted to let you know that we’ll be making some small adjustments to our class fees and subscription structures.

These changes will help us to continue providing high-quality teaching with some of the most experienced teachers Canberra has to offer, to maintain our beautiful studio spaces, and to keep investing in the programs and opportunities our dancers love.

We’ve kept the increase as modest as possible, whilst remaining solvent, and we truly appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to give every student the best dance experience possible.

Staffing Update

Our beloved and hilarious Pilates teacher Wenna, is moving to class substitutions only on the 2026 Timetable to keep up with her crazy, busy job! Many of you will know Wenna for her pragmatic and down-to-earth teaching style and of course as our very own, FAMOUS Cory Worthington in last year’s Teacher’s Dance!

Wenna - we love you and insist that you not be a stranger! We hope to still see you regularly around the studios.

For anyone wanting to farewell Wenna, she is teaching her very last Pilates class on Saturday 20th December and will be popping downstairs for a coffee afterwards if anyone would like to join her!

In happier news - the lovely Lauren will be rejoining the team in 2026 after her crazy, busy job posting has wrapped up! Further details on what she will be teaching to come!

Update on Carpark

Unfortunately, I haven’t heard any further news about the Legislative Assembly Meeting other than the motion was disappointingly not supported on the day.

We are still working with nearby business owners to get our voices heard but a recent meeting with local government representatives confirmed that no consultation was done on the new theatre and when asked if the new 2000-seat theatre would have a carpark, they also confirmed no. They have taken the request for a consultation process on notice. In the meantime, we still encourage you to contact your local member or local influencers with a decent following that can bring attention to this matter.

That’s all for now folks! If anyone ever has questions, I’m an email away.
