Studio News - December 2025
Hi again Dancers, for the last time this year!
Concert Viewing Party
6th Position held it’s end of year concert rewatch party at Dendy Cinemas! We had a full cinema of over 80 students come along to enjoy some drinks, canapés and watch our amazing concert on the big screen.
The concert video has now been emailed out to all concert participants, with photos also coming in the next few days. What a joy it was to see all of your hard work pay off and hear you cheer for each other. I love how welcoming and encouraging our community is.
Staffing Update
With incredible sadness I need to announce that our beloved Tatiana will be leaving us to return to Adelaide in the New Year to complete a masters degree. Tatiana has been an amazing addition to the studio and it’s hard to believe that it’s only been a year since she joined us. I know this is a big loss for all of us with Tati’s kind, constructive and thoughtful teaching style. Her incredible wealth of knowledge on the Vaganova technique, beautiful choreography and warm nature has been an asset to all.
We will miss you SO much, Tati! Please come back to Canberra soon and congratulations on commencing your masters!
Tati’s last class with us will be Open-Level Ballet & Beginner Ballet on Wednesday 14th of January but you can also join us to farewell Tatiana at King O’Malley’s on Sunday 11th January from 1-3pm.
In brighter news, we are happy to announce that we are welcoming Caitlin-Rae Crook, who some of you may know from her guest workshops and assistance on Nutcracker this year. Caitlin-Rae is returning to Australia after spending many years abroad!
Caitlin-Rae is both an ex-professional dancer and now teacher with experiences both as a dancer and teacher expanding over Germany, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, China, USA and Australia.
Born in Canberra, Caitlin-Rae’s training started at Kim Harvey School of Dance. In 2005 she competed as a semifinalist in the Genee International Ballet Competition (now Margot Fonteyn Ballet Competition) held in London that year. After graduating with an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts from WAAPA, she headed overseas to start her international career joining Mystic Ballet Company, USA and then Tanzcompagnie Giessen/Stadttheater Germany in 2012 until 2020, and has spent the last several years working as a dance teacher in Germany, gaining certifications in fitness training for women! Anyone who attended her workshops knows that her down-to-earth and approachable style to ballet and contemporary education will be a huge asset for us.
2026 Timetable and Open Day
Drum roll…. The 2026 Timetable and the timetable for our Open Day on Sunday 18th January are finally finished!
I may have gone partially blind in the process and had MANY discussions with the teachers but we are all super excited to start 2026 with you.
The 2026 timetable excitingly:
Expands our Dance Conditioning offerings to suit all styles of dance for strengthening, flexibility and injury prevention.
Veronica is combining Pilates, PBT and her learnings from the Sportstec Flexibility workshop that several teachers attended recently. She will focus on different aspects of dance conditioning each month that are relevant to all dancers and promote these in the private Facebook group for 6P dancers.
Expands our Silver Swans program to two levels of capabilities and introduces a Seated Swans class!
If you or someone you know struggles with joint issues, mobility or physical stamina then our Saturday Silver Swans class is for you!
Now offers a Broadway Jazz class for experienced dancers who would like to get to Musical Theatre but can’t make it or find it too simple.
Astrid is joining the Monday night rotation for Advanced Jazz and will offer a Broadway Jazz class during her weeks. This class would be suitable for Intermediate+ Jazz students. You’re also encouraged to wear chorus shoes, giving a new challenge to your dancing! Please note, chorus shoes are not compulsory to participation.
Moves KLT to a primetime slot allowing more people to attend!
A big thank you to Emily and Jess for their hard work on launching this class in 2025! It’s popularity is due to their enthusiastic nature.
Sees a Morning Barre and Floor Barre class join our timetable creating more options for those student who can’t make evening classes or want to improve their ballet technique.
Fits in no less than four RAD syllabus levels - phew!
Each level has an opportunity for one class in our RAD-approved studio for exam work and has two time slots a week for students wishing to undertake the examination (not compulsory).
The RAD recommends a minimum of two classes per week from Grade 3 onwards to ensure students are fully prepared and confident for the increasing technical demands and to build sufficient stamina.
For vocational grades, the RAD recommends a minimum of two or three syllabus classes per week, plus additional complementary classes (e.g. pointe, contemporary, conditioning). These class requirements help students acquire the necessary technique, musicality, and performance skills, as the RAD recommends approximately 70 hours of study before a Grade 1 exam, increasing with each level!
The RAD syllabus classes will move back to enrolment-only based on ACT Terms after our Open Day next year. Any student is welcome to enrol, only those who have the intention to do their exam are required for two classes a week. This allows more time for refinement of combinations, conditioning work to progress challenging steps and practising mock-exams.
The Open Day timetable is also finished. Sunday 18th January is a day of FREE taster classes - yes you read that right! It’s often one of our most popular days of the year. If you’re an exisiting 6th Position student, we encourage you to bring in that friend who always says they want to try dance! If you’re a existing student you can try a higher level or new style - otherwise we always run a sale on class passes!
Changes to Pricing for 2026
A reminder too, that as mentioned in last month’s studio news, from January 1, 2026, we will be introducing some changes to our pricing structure, and in particular, the subscriptions available.
To answer three frequently asked questions about this update:
What’s A Half Credit?
45 minute classes such as Dance Conditioning, Pointe, and Pre-Pointe classes will remain at the rate of half a credit. This means that depending on the kind of classes you take, your subscriptions could net you twice as many classes as advertised!
How Do Subscriptions Work?
Subscriptions are the new way to go! It seems many people don’t realise that when you have a subscription, you’re receiving a class credit just like a class pass. When you cancel out of a class four hours before the start time, you get your credit back to use for another class within a month. So if illness strikes, you haven’t paid for nothing. Unlike class passes, you can also pause your subscription anytime. This allows you to stop paying if you’re going on holidays or are nursing a long-term injury, whereas credits on a class pass may expire while you’re away. What’s The Extension Policy
Currently, a massive 98% of our current customers use the 5 and 10 packs of class passes, not subscriptions. We receive so many requests for extensions on the expiry dates each week. Whilst we understand adult life gets busy, our terms and conditions do state that a medical certificate is required for refunds or extensions and we will be taking a firmer stance on that from 1st January onwards.
Summer Series Schedules!
We’ve had a few minor adjustments to the schedule that was released last month, so be sure to have a look through what’s available here. We also have availability from our teaching staff (including Tatiana before she leaves) for private lessons; though spaces are filling up! So if you have some dance goals you’re hoping to meet, now is the time to book them in.
Attitude Mitchell - Opening Hours
Pointe students who are excited for Gaynor Mindens to hit Canberra, must make an appointment first at Attitude Mitchell. Mary and the team are taking a well-deserved break from 20th December to 5th January, with the exception of reduced hours on 29th and 30th December.
6P’s Holiday Opening Hours
I’m very excited to say I will be travelling with my family to Japan for our first white Christmas! Whilst Emily is working behind the scenes to set up the 2026 classes, the lovely Carys will be answering your queries via phone or email. But of course, they need to enjoy the silly season too so… 6th Position will be closed for business 24th to 26th December as well as 31st December to 1st January (inclusive.)
I hope everyone has a VERY Merry Christmas and HAPPIEST of New Year celebrations. Please travel safely if you’re heading away. I can’t thank you enough for supporting a local business and being a part of something special: our beautiful community!
Here’s to a great 2026!
Anouska
