Studio News - May 2026

Hi Dancers,

Welcome to May! We have a few important updates to share this month, so settle in with your cup of tea and read on.

Dance Tour Auditions

Our fabulous team of 36 dancers submitted their audition to dance at Paris Disneyland yesterday and we couldn’t be prouder of them. Not only did they learn their dances via videos from our team due to the incredibly tight turnaround, but our troupe dancers stepped into assist. I say it a lot, but our dance community really is the best! A big thank you to Jess, Emily and Billy who volunteered their time to assist me with this huge project and ultimately keep the tour costs down.

Upcoming Workshops

Announcing three awesome workshops coming up:

Bharatanatyam Workshop (Indian Classical)

Step into the joyful and expressive world of Bharatanatyam with this introductory workshop from Ananya Sangeetha! Open to adults of all levels and backgrounds, this session on Saturday 16th May at 5:30pm in Studio 1, is designed to give you an overall glimpse into the beauty of this classical dance form.

Similar to classical ballet, you will explore graceful movements, rhythmic footwork, and the art of storytelling through expressions and gestures. Whether you’re trying Bharatanatyam for the first time or returning to dance after a break, you’ll be guided with care, clarity, and encouragement.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll take away a sense of joy and confidence in your movement, and a short piece of choreography that you can continue to explore and make your own.

About Ananya:

I have been learning and practicing Bharatanatyam for over 20 years, and it continues to be a deeply meaningful part of my life. I’ve had the privilege of training students for several stage performances and have created both solo and group choreographies to several pieces in different dance styles. I have also trained dancers for their special milestone, the arangetram, which involves heavy physical and mental training. I have also assisted in the staging of dance dramas, which has shaped my understanding of both the technical and expressive aspects of the art form.

As a teacher, I value creating a warm, inclusive, and encouraging space where everyone feels comfortable to learn and grow. I love sharing Bharatanatyam in a way that feels accessible while still honouring its richness and tradition, and I look forward to dancing together and sharing that joy with you.

Showgirl Workshop (Two Week Course)

Starting Monday 1st June and continuing on Monday 8th June, Emily is bringing Showgirl back by popular demand!

With extra time to hone your technique and performance quality, we’ll work together to create a fun, sharp routine that lets your confidence shine. Perfect for all levels – come ready to move, perform, and embrace your inner showgirl! Chorus heels encouraged but not required.

Highland Dancing (Two Week Course)

Release your inner Braveheart! Veronica is back with another athletic Scottish solo dance. Known for its footwork, strength and agility, this beginner level workshop will continue with the basic steps and positioning, culminating in a routine at the end of the two weeks.

Start on Monday 1st June and have a week’s rest before you challenge your stamina again on Monday 8th June!

While we can’t promise you’ll be dancing with swords this time, we can promise some heart pumping fun!

Dance Conditioning – New Time!

Following the results from Veronica’s survey, Dance Conditioning is moving to a Monday morning slot: 7:30-8:15am at the Northbourne Studio. Veronica has designed this class to be the perfect way to start your week: a focused, purposeful session combining Pilates, PBT, strength and mobility work before the day gets away from you.

If you've been wanting to try this class but couldn't make the previous time work, now might be your moment! Best of all, our Northbourne Studio has a shower facility so you can still arrive at work fresh, knowing you’ve done your conditioning for the week.

Elementary Tap is Here!

I am so excited to see that Elementary Tap are already loving their class!

If you’re still not sure, this new level sits between Beginner and Intermediate Tap, and has been designed specifically for dancers who have been attending Beginner Tap for at least a year and are ready for more, but perhaps aren't quite ready to jump into Intermediate just yet. If that sounds like you, please have a chat with Chloe or Georgie at your next Beginner class!

Elementary Tap runs on Wednesdays at 6:15pm in Mitchell Studio 2. We are so grateful to Leah for taking this on and to our wonderful tap team for making it happen. You can sign up here.

New Momence Features

We've got some lovely updates in Momence that we're really excited about:

  • You can now indicate in your profile whether you would like hands-on corrections from your teacher or prefer not to be touched during class. This is entirely your choice and we want everyone to feel comfortable and in control of their experience at 6P. This can also be changed at any time in your profile - if you know you’ve previously said yes but are having a “leave me alone” day, simply change it and it will update on your teacher’s roll.

  • You can also now add your pronouns to your Momence profile so that your teacher is aware before you even walk through the door. We want every dancer to feel seen and respected from the moment they book in.

To update any of these details, simply head to your profile in the Momence app.

Failed Subscription Payments

This one is a little less fun to write about, but it's important!

We have had an increasing number of subscriptions experiencing repeated failed payments, which creates extra administration work for our small team, impacts our cash flow and costs us extra fees in our POS gateway. From today, second and third failed subscription payments will incur a fee of $2.50 and then $5.00.

We of course understand that card details change and life happens. A single failed payment is absolutely fine and easily resolved. There is no charge for the retry at this point. These fees are aimed specifically at recurring failures that go unaddressed. If your payment details have recently changed, please update them in Momence as soon as possible to avoid any disruption to your account.

As always, if you have any concerns about your account or are experiencing financial difficulty, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly, we're always happy to have a conversation.

Dance Week

Now back to the fun stuff!

As you’ve seen on our socials, we are currently celebrating International Dance Week with a little something for everyone! Until midnight tomorrow (6 May), all Class Pass Packs will be 10% off using the code DANCEWEEK26 at checkout. A great time to stock up if you've been thinking about it.

And if you know someone who has always wanted to try dance but hasn't quite taken the leap yet - now is the perfect time to send them our way. New students can try their first class for free by signing up via this link. They need to make sure they then use their pass to book in to a specific class. Share it far and wide: the more the merrier!

This always coincides with International Dance Day where so many gorgeous, personal dancing photos were shared in our Private Facebook Group. It’s mine and Emily’s favourite day of the year and is such a great reminder for what dance brings to our lives.

How cute are our teachers?!

That’s all for this month. Thanks everyone, and happy dancing!
