Happy Easter from 6th Position!
Hi Dancers,
I hope you’re planning to have a restful Easter break with lots of chocolate, books, puzzles and naps! We have a few exciting changes to announce so please read on - with a good cup of tea in hand.
Public Holidays
Easter Break
After a strange Canberra Day, the teachers and I decided we would no longer hold classes on public holidays UNLESS… it’s an enrolment class or everyone is still very keen to come in and asks the teachers very nicely, pretty please with a cherry on top!
A prime example of this was the Sunday ballerinas asking Danielle to kindly come in on Easter Sunday. She will run a Beginner Ballet class at 10am so there’s still time for a sleep-in before dancing. Daggy attire encouraged: think bunny ears and fluffy tails over your leotard!
Then on Monday evening you can shake off the chocolate coma and ease back into movement with a feel-good class: A blend of Pilates and Barre to lengthen, strengthen, and gently reset your body after the long weekend – expect a low-impact burn, deep core work, and a satisfying stretch. The perfect way to start your week feeling refreshed, not sluggish.
Afterwards, Emily is hoping to celebrate Easter with a little sparkle in a Showgirl Workshop. A fun, high-energy class where you’ll explore showgirl-inspired choreography, build confidence, and embrace your inner performer. No experience needed – just bring your energy, personality, and a love of dance. Chorus heels encouraged but not required.
ANZAC Day & Other Public Holidays
Drop-in classes this year are cancelled on both the Saturday and Monday with two public holidays for ANZAC Day now. However, Danielle has kindly agreed to keep Elementary Ballet on at the Northbourne Studio on the Saturday, so the Beginner Pointe enrolment students can come in for more than 45 minutes. Please be sure to sign up ASAP.
Veronica and Emily may also have something fun planned again on the Mondays of ANZAC Day, Reconciliation Day and the King’s Birthday before Beginner Pointe and Grade 3 so keep an eye on our socials for those! Now’s the time to get your requests in with them…
Troupe Adventures
Our gorgeous (but so professional) Performance Troupe recently performed at a A 70s themed 50th Wedding Anniversary and Live Art Week at University of Canberra.
If you have an intimate or commercial event coming up, our dancers do it all! Let us help you take your event to the next level and create something your guests will be talking about long after it ends. Contact Emily via email today!

Saturday Ballet in the City
Our Saturday teacher, Belle, has excitingly been offered a contract with International Ballet Company Messapica. Congratulations Belle! Juliet has very kindly agreed to take over the rotation with Jess for Saturdays. Many of you know Juliet recently started with us on the Tuesday nights for Intermediate Ballet and Pointe but now you’ll have me back instead! I’ve actually missed you all so much. Thank you Juliet - the Saturday dancers are so lucky to have you!
Speaking of Advanced Ballet, the Saturday morning Advanced class will become a hybrid level of Intermediate to Advanced again to give the Intermediate students who don’t participate in RAD Grade 7 another class during the week.
Woodland Glade Fairy Workshop
Leah is planning to spend the holiday break with our Beginner to Elementary-level ballerinas in tutus! Replacing pre-pointe on Wednesdays for the next two weeks, you can attend beginner ballet to warm-up and then spend 45 minutes learning this beautiful variation from The Sleeping Beauty. Bestowing generosity on the baby Aurora, this variation involves sweeping arms, elegant ballet walks and emanates kindness. Sign up for one or both classes on 8th and 15th of April to really master the beautiful dynamics.
Dance Conditioning Survey
Veronica currently has a survey available for students wishing they could make it to Dance Conditioning more often or wanting to work on specific things. Please fill it out if this is a class you’d like to give feedback on or attend more regularly but cannot.
Enrolment Classes Opening
As announced in the last Studio News and on our socials, Pointe Classes are moving to enrolments and are now open for sign-ups! Please remember to email us in advance of any absences so that we can return a class credit to you or cancel your payment plan for that week.
For that friend who has always wanted to dance or try ballet, the new Ballet Foundations Courses are starting again! Wednesday lunchtimes in the city with Caitlin-Rae and Sunday mornings at Mitchell with Leah. As always, we require a minimum of three students for the course to run. Current ballet students who are welcome to accompany their friend trying it out - plus you will receive a referral discount then!
Very excitingly, the 1st Position Program is having it’s relaunch this term. If you, or someone you know has young children aged 0-5 years, they can now share their love of dance with their little one! Located at the Mitchell Studio on Thursdays at 10:30am, we welcome Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles to all engage their tiny human in dance and music based on early childhood developmental milestones. Leah is super excited to relaunch this program for me. I originally designed it based on what I had wished my own children had access to and Leah, who is study education, is the perfect person to take over. She’s already chosen a VERY cute theme for Term 2 that is bound to engage the whole brain!
Term 2 enrolments for Teens, Grade 3, Grade 7 and Advanced 2 are all open now. RAD students, it’s also time to start thinking about whether you’ll be aiming to complete your exam this year! Chat with your teacher if you’re unsure about your progress, but I’ll be in touch early May to confirm numbers.
Unfortunately, as those students already know, Discovering Repertoire Level 3 has not received sufficient numbers to continue next term. However, where one door closes for some students, another opens for others…
New Tap Level!
It is with great excitement that I announce, Elementary Tap is joining the schedule - one year earlier than I had planned!
Leah is ready to take on students who have been in Beginner Tap for awhile now but feel out of their depth in Intermediate Tap. Our tap team are meeting in the term break to discuss what this class will look like and most importantly who it caters to. If you’re not sure, speak with Chloe and Georgie at your next class. We’ve already been in discussions and several names have been floated, so feel free to ask away about where you fit best. You have until the 22nd of April to chat with your current teachers.
Thank you to Leah for being available to run this and relieve the pressure on Beginner Tap which is almost always full. And of course a big thank you to all our tap teachers who are taking time out of their weekend to meet again this year and discuss the levels in order to offer you all the best possible classes. I always say it, I have the BEST team!
Beginner Ballet this also means you get the big room and the nice floor for ballet on a Wednesday now, I can hear the cheering from here!
Late Policy
A reminder that our doors close for entry fifteen minutes after class starts. This is a safety issue as students will have missed too much of warm-up. If you’re running late for class, you can always message us on Momence and Emily or I will pass it onto the relevant teacher. If you’re not at fault (eg. there’s an accident on the parkway) and you know you’ll be more than fifteen minutes late, we are happy to return your credit. However, lateness due to poor planning or recurring lateness is an ongoing issue where you may not be allowed to join class and your credit will also not be returned. This is to also minimise disruption to your classmates so please be thoughtful and organised in your travel to the studios.
City Renewal Peoples Panel
The City Renewal Authority (CRA) is establishing a People’s Panel to co‑create the City Hill park concept masterplan. To help shape this important civic and cultural space, individuals can complete a short form to express their interest until 10th April. 6th Position has already submitted one for local businesses to give their feedback.
Customer Feedback
6th Position welcomes regular feedback (compliments or complaints). You may have seen that we have been incorporating some of your lovely Momence reviews into our website pages - the teachers also love to see these, so please keep them coming!
If you’d like a channel to provide anonymous feedback, I have recently changed our website contact form to be anonymous. Of course, if you’d like a response, we will still need an email address and/or name.
Easter Shut Down
The admin team and I are taking a shut down over this Easter break: Friday to Monday inclusive. Emails and calls (unless noted as urgent in the voicemail) will be responded to on Tuesday 7th April. Please travel safely if you’re heading away and have a restful break!
Thanks all,
Anouska
