Studio News - March 2026
Hi Dancers,
It’s been another busy month since we last spoke…
Workshop Recaps
Valentine’s Day
We had an absolute blast getting our disco on for our Valentine’s Day class! After the success of last year’s ballet edition, we thought we’d mix things up this time with a disco theme — and it did not disappoint.
It was so lovely to see some of our regulars’ other halves stepping into the studio and finally getting a glimpse of where you spend all your time. So many laughs, great energy, and plenty of sparkle on the dance floor.
Heels with Nicole Aspinall
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and sold out our very first Heels workshop!
We spent the session diving into technique — and who knew we’d be thinking so deeply about something as “simple” as walking? From finding strength through the feet to creating those beautiful lines, there was so much focus, hard work, and incredible energy in the room.
A massive thank you to Nicole for sharing her time, effort, and expertise with us. We loved every minute.
6P Merch!
I’ve had a few questions about where to buy 6th Position merchandise, and the answer is right here on our website. The 6P store is a great place to show your love of dance and our community either for yourself or as a gift to someone else. Don’t have FOMO when you see other students rocking their gorgeous AVA jackets, order your own!
Please note, MDM items (AVA Jacket, dance bag and warm-up booties) are all shipped once a month in bulk orders put in by 6th Position.
Studio Updates
We FINALLY have blinds at both Mitchell and Northbourne Studios. With blockout and privacy options available, you won’t feel like you’re dancing in a fishbowl (or a sauna in the mornings).
Studio 2 is also receiving it’s own wall barre this week to help supplement the very busy ballet classes that happen in there and protect our walls from fingerprints. Need to calf stretch? Push on the barre!
Further improvements will be made as the budget allows. Most importantly to our Dance Conditioning teacher, Veronica, a bike rack will be coming soon to Mitchell! And for Veronica, Emily and Jess, some ankle weights for their conditioning / KLT classes. Get ready to feel the burn!
If you have any other improvements you’d like to see in the spaces, please email us.
Timetable Updates
Now that we have all settled into the year, there have been a few updates to our timetable.
Pointe classes will be moving back to term enrolments from Term 2 (20th April). This is due to the inconsistent attendance and subsequent safety issues surrounding pointe work. Your teachers are working hard to progress students in the safest way possible but this is nearly impossible to do when there is cancellations due to low numbers every second week. It is also unfair to those students who are trying their best to attend regularly. With all our term enrolment classes (Ballet Foundations, Tap Foundations, and RAD classes) the minimum number has been kept at 3 students.
If you’ve never done an enrolment class with us before - have no fear! We will be offering return credits for absences advised in advance. This is to allow Pointe students to still have a work/life/dance balance that is often sorely needed with RAD and Nutcracker commitments. We will also still allow payment plans to help spread the costs, if you wish.
Tuesday’s lunchtime Pointe class will remain drop-in for now as this one can be attended to supplement training. Please note, any performances you wish to complete en pointe (Nutcracker or concert) needs to see a minimum of five consecutively attended pointe classes in the lead-up to the performance. As our terms are usually always set at 10 weeks, this should be no problem and allows for safe dance practise.
Friday’s lunchtime Floor Barre class is being given one last chance to take off! Caitlin-Rae is catering this class to what the students want to work on. Following discussions she’s had with students, and everyone’s feedback to both the 2024 Survey and our beloved Tatiana, Floor Barre is on the menu! Want a strong core, flexible joints, long lines and stamina for days? Whether you’re a ballerina or not, this class is for you. And best of all, you can fit it in your lunch break.
Wednesday afternoon’s Ballet & Conditioning as well as Saturday morning’s Dance Conditioning have both been permanently cancelled.
A new Tap Foundations Course is launching this month! If you’ve always wanted to try this style or have a friend who wants to try something new, please sign up here:

City Construction Updates
I have received word from the ACT Government that there will be an underground carpark constructed with the new privately owned site where the Law Courts carpark used to be. This will assist nearby businesses and service the Lyric Theatre when it is completed, though I don’t anticipate it being cheap…
There are further road closures coming up in March and April with parts of London Circuit, Vernon Circle and Northbourne Avenue being affected once again. We always do our best to alert those signed up to classes where they may be impacted, but it’s starting to be the norm. In the meantime, thank you for your ongoing patronage.
10 Year Anniversary Dance Tour to London/Paris!
With over 50 responses, it is heartwarming to see so many of you interested in this awesome opportunity! At this stage, far and away the most selected option has been for April/May 2027.
If you’re still on the fence, we recommend checking out our FAQ page and joining the virtual meeting with our Dance Around The World Tour Guide, Ros! Filling in the EOI form or attending the virtual meeting does not commit you to the trip, but rather allows you to ask questions and get a sense of what is involved.
The meeting will be held this Sunday, 8th March at 7pm. You can sign in via this link.
Meeting ID: 452 735 003 252 85
Passcode: MY2b74Ba
If you cannot attend, feel free to email us with your questions and we can submit them for you.
And don’t worry if you can’t join the dance tour, there will be so many wonderful opportunities throughout the year to celebrate 6th Position’s 10th anniversary including video projects, a trivia & cabaret night, a bazaar market day, a dance movie night, and of course an EPIC end of year concert!
2026 Concert Announcement!
Speaking of concerts… As some of you may have seen on our socials, we have announced our 2026 Concert Date! Block out your diaries for 20th and 21st of November 2026 because we will be at the Belconnen Arts Centre! A gorgeous venue with views over Belconnen Lake, it’s own bar (yes, you read that right!), and cafe, as well as delicious restaurants nearby, this super-duper grown-up venue is the perfect place to host our end of year concert. Theme to be announced later… We’re just keeping you on your toes (AKA our team are still brewing ideas)!
That’s all for now. Thanks everyone,
Anouska.
