Audition Results

A huge congratulations to all students who auditioned for our Performance Troupe or Nutcracker 2026 Cast over the weekend. Please congratulate these people as you see them in classes.

Heels Workshop Opportunity

On Friday, 27 February, 6th Position will be hosting the one and only Nicole Aspinall in Canberra for a Heels Workshop! A professional dancer, choreographer and teacher who grew up training in Canberra before attaining her Diploma in Performing Arts through Brent Street. Nicole then continued to expand her training through Marko Panzic’s The Dream Show Business program.

Nicole has had the opportunity to work with a variety of artists and companies in performing, choreography and movement direction roles. Nicole was a cast member of the Australian touring company of the internationally recognised Star Wars Parody Show, presented by Giant Panda King. She has performed for the likes of Ministry of Sound, Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, Sydney World Pride as well as currently being a resident dancer for Australian music icon, Ricki Lee. Nicole’s choreography and movement direction has been featured through the likes of Project Peters, Kymie the Artist, The Dream Show Business and more.

Workshop live next week! - keep an eye on our socials or Momence to book!

Valentines Day Class

Back by popular demand, you can once again “Bring your Boo to the Stu(dio)”!

This year it’s all about DISCO, partner dancing, and feel-good FUN. This beginner-friendly class is your perfect excuse to finally convince your partner/friend/family member to hit the dance floor with you. Expect funky footwork, shared laughs, supportive vibes — and yes, we might finish with a Soul Train because… how could we not?!

You can book this class casually or with your class pass/memberships. Please book yourself in twice to include your guest into this event! This will use 0.5 of a class credit per person.

Studio Updates

We have officially ordered blinds for both Studio 1, Mitchell and Northbourne Studio. This will help with temperature management and privacy. In the meantime, the air conditioning at Mitchell has been adjusted to better split between the two spaces. We hope this keeps you comfortable during February until our blinds are installed.

UpstAGEing Festival

Our gorgeous Silver Swans and Seated Swans classes continue to grow. We are proud to announce our participation in the inaugural UpstAGEing Festival, designed to promote and celebrate the creative expression of older Canberrans! During the week of 20 to 29 March, we will be offering FREE trial classes to anyone wishing to join our Silver Swans or Seated Swans ballet classes. We may also perform (more info to follow), so keep an eye out for our socials to cheer these gorgeous ladies on!

Dance Therapy

Do you know someone who’s needs are beyond what a regular dance class can provide, but who would still benefit from the joy of dance? We’re proud to offer private lesson time-slots, have a supportive and inclusive community and now offer Seated Ballet. But even so, sometimes these services aren’t quite enough. Some of the areas dance movement therapists work in are: mental health, disability, neurodivergence, developmental delay, parents & babies attachment, trauma/PTSD, stroke recovery, Parkinson’s Disease, and dementia care.

For the past two years, 6P has offered our studios for free to a local dance therapist to hold their appointments! If you know someone who would benefit from this service, or another Dance Therapist looking for a gorgeous space to run this important work, then please send them our way so dance can continue to be where EVERY. BODY’s. WELCOME!

6th Position’s 10th Year Anniversary Celebration!

Without further ado, let’s get stuck into chatting about the MOST EXCITING news ever! As many of you know, 6P turns double digits next year, and we wanted to find a way to properly mark the occasion.

We believe very strongly in offering our dancers as many amazing opportunities for growth and performance as we can. Including the opportunities that are often provided to pre-professional or professional dancers at studios usually catering to younger dancers.

That’s why we’ve been talking with Dance Around the World, a company that specialises in creating travel packages that include performance and workshop opportunities in amazing locations.

To start off with the gold standard of dance education and performance, we have received information on their top-tier tour. This would mean 6P students of all styles and abilities get the chance to dance at…

PARIS DISNEYLAND!

This tour would be a 10-night trip, starting with 5 nights in London, which would include a backstage tour of a West End theatre, as well as tickets to a performance there, classes at Pineapple Studios, a trip to the Royal Academy of Dance, tickets to a performance at the Royal Opera House, and a guided sightseeing tour of London.

From there, it’s off to Paris for 3 nights at Disneyland, where we would spend 2 days on as many rides as we could fit in, between workshops with the official Disney performers and the chance to perform onstage at the Disneyland theatre! Finally, we will spend 2 nights in Paris, with a guided sightseeing tour, tickets to the Louvre, and a Moulin Rouge performance.

Now, the less exciting bit: What does this cost?

The trip is fully inclusive of:

  • Flights

  • Accommodation

  • Breakfast each morning

  • All domestic transfers and trips around town

  • Train from London to Paris

  • Guided sightseeing tours in both London and Paris

  • 2-day parkhopper passes for Paris Disneyland

  • All activities listed above

  • Pre-theatre show dinner in London

  • Farewell dinner in Paris

The estimated price from Dance Around the World is $7,779 per person. This cost can very likely decrease if we get a large number of attendees. With that in mind, your friends and family are all welcome too! Non-performers pay a slightly reduced rate but are still welcome to all events except the dance workshops and dancing onstage, at Disneyland of course. Though they will be able to cheer you on, watch your performance and add to the final group numbers.

If you wish to turn this into an extended holiday, you can absolutely do so! The only requirement is to exit via the originally planned airport (Paris). When Billy and I did this with my previous studio in 2013, we used it as our honeymoon! Once we left the dance families, we drove around the USA on our own and then found our way back to LAX.

Another way to make it cheaper for yourself is to do the “land-only” package by:

  • Hunting for less direct, cheaper air fares and meet us there

  • Saving like crazy and use those Fly Buys / Everyday Rewards (start doing surveys everyone!)

  • Leaving the kids at home and just bring yourself - you deserve it!

The “land only” package (sourcing your own flights), reduces the cost by $2400 to $5,379.

6th Position endeavours to make this opportunity as accessible as possible, so we would donate free rehearsal times to prepare for the performance. We would also commence a year’s worth of fundraising activities to buy amazing costumes and team jackets at no extra costs to the dancers.

Payments are made directly to Dance Around the World. 6P is not involved and does not collect any money or profits from this. We just think you’re all awesome!

The payment schedule is:

  • A $500 deposit 1 year prior to travel.

  • A $1500 deposit 5 months after that.

  • The remainder is due 2 weeks prior to travel.

The minimum number of travellers (including non-performers) for the trip to go ahead is 40 people, and pricing can decrease with extra travellers beyond this number.

Expression Of Interest

We have an EOI form here where you can let us know whether this is an opportunity you would like to discuss further (an information session to follow) or indicate your interest in another, potentially cheaper dance tour like this.

At this stage, we would be looking at the quoted trip for April/May of 2027, so as not to conflict with an amazing tenth-anniversary, end-of-year concert. Another option to allow more time to save is to travel in September/October of 2027; this preference can be indicated on the EOI. A later travel date would still mean an amazing concert - perhaps more of a mid-year showcase instead.

If a dance tour does go ahead in 2027, it would replace the The Nutcracker In July for 2027 only.

Hope you can still get to sleep tonight after reading that exciting news!

Happy dancing,

Anouska
