Studio News - July 2026
Hi Dancers,
Welcome to July. There's a lot going on this month so settle in. I promise it's worth the read!
Community Performances Recap
What an incredibly special morning our Nutcracker cast had performing for the wonderful residents at Villaggio Sant'Antonio! My favourite moment was a resident marvelling at the dancers of all shapes, ages and abilities. She said it made her think of “that Pauline Hanson woman… and stuff her!”. I think this might be the best compliment I have ever received! As one of our Clara’s said: the Nutcracker cast is changing the political landscape, one ballet at a time.
Our 6P Troupe and Nutcracker cast also performed at the Christmas In July Festival. There were so many children dancing along and guessing costumes, it was fun for the dancers and the audience. One little girl told me that she has a sparkly dress too but it’s just for HER. Out of the mouth of babes…
Further to these amazing weekend performances, some of the Silver Swans joined me for a visit to the Baptist Care Social Club last Wednesday. We delivered a taster class for the day-respite residents. We had so much fun and every single resident joined in from their seats. It was so heartwarming to see.
The warmth and welcome we received from each of these performances was just beautiful. Moments like these are what dance is really for. It's not just about technique or performance quality (although our dancers delivered plenty of both!), it's about sharing joy, connecting with our fellow Canberrans (tall and small), and creating memories that genuinely matter to people.
Thank you to every single one of our students who gave their time and their heart to make it happen. I couldn't be prouder of you all.
Pride Month Recap
Clearly, June was a big month for us! Our Beginner Jazz class put together a gorgeous Pride video that had so many of us smiling from ear to ear, and our dancers came out in force again for another Rainbow Rodeo.
6P is and always will be a place where every dancer is welcome, celebrated, and seen. Thank you to everyone who danced, attended, and showed up as their full, fabulous selves this Pride Month!
Good Luck for R.A.D. Exams!
A HUGE good luck to our Grade 3 and Discovering Repertoire students who are heading into their Royal Academy of Dance exams on Friday 31st July!
You have all worked so hard this term and your dedication has been incredible to watch. Whatever you feel walking in, remember that getting to this point is already something to be incredibly proud of. We are cheering you on so loudly!
Once these examinations are done, we will be opening the Grade 3 enrolment class to new students! Read on for more information below.
R.A.D. Term 3 Enrolments
Term 3 enrolments are now open, and we have some exciting news on that front:
If you have been dancing at an Advanced Beginner to Elementary level and have been wondering whether a syllabus class might suit you, I am so excited to announce that Grade 4 will be launching again this term! This will replace the Sunday Grade 3 timeslot for the rest of 2026. A second weekly class for this level will be launched in 2027 for those wishing to undertake the exam. This level is designed to bridge the gap for those students who started as beginners but are ready for more. So if that sounds like you, please don't hesitate to reach out and have a chat.
And a warm welcome to anyone considering joining:
Grade 7 (good for experienced Elementary to Intermediate level dancers) on the Thursday nights or Saturday mornings
Advanced 2 (advanced dancers only) on the Thursday nights or Sunday mornings
for the first time. These classes are once again open to newcomers and our teachers will make sure you feel right at home. Don’t worry if you don’t know the syllabus, there are existing students to learn alongside - think of it as having a class full of demonstrators to help you!
As mentioned above, Grade 3 will also be open to new students, post the 2026 examinations, and will stay on the Monday nights till the end of the year. You can sign up closer to the date and pay a prorated amount for the remainder of the term. A second weekly class for this level will be launched in 2027 for those wishing to undertake the exam.
Exams are always optional - you are more than welcome to enrol in one or both classes to simply to enjoy the syllabus work and develop your technique. Those wishing to work towards an examination need regular attendance at both weekly classes in 2027.
Remember, if you're enrolling in two RAD classes within the same term, you're eligible for a 10% discount — just email us at studio@6thposition.com.au for the discount code before you check out.
Timetable and Staff Updates
Dance Conditioning - Permanent Cancellation
After careful consideration, Dance Conditioning has been permanently cancelled. I know this will be disappointing for a few of you who love this class, and I want to thank everyone who attended and supported it over the years in all it’s iterations. We're always looking at ways to continue offering conditioning and cross-training opportunities, so watch this space. In the meantime, we still have KLT (Kicks, Leaps and Turns), Floor Barre, Morning Barre, Pre-Pointe and Seated Ballet.
Welcome Amy Macris!
I am so thrilled to welcome Amy to the 6P teaching team! Many of you will already know Amy's face around the studio, including from her role as Clara in our Nutcracker this year. We are so lucky to have her joining us and I know you are going to love dancing with her. An experienced ballet teacher, more details about Amy's classes will follow very soon, so watch this space. For now she is on class covers and the Elementary Ballet class recently loved working with her. I’ve already received glowing feedback!
Indian Classical Dance
Following the beautiful response to our Bharatanatyam workshop earlier this year, we are thrilled to be bringing more Indian classical dance to the studio! Ananya is only with us for three more weeks if you wish to undertake these classes and learn this incredibly intricate style of dance. Sign up for this week here.
