End of June Studio News

Hi Dancers,

June has proven to be another busy month and July is going to be even crazier! Read on for the latest 6P news.

Merchandise

We’re so excited to share that our brand-new merch Store is now live! We know you've been hanging out for some 6P goodies and this store is a little different to how we’ve done things in the past — in the best way.

Instead of ordering in bulk and distributing items at the studio, you’ll now be able to browse and purchase directly from our online store. Your chosen pieces will be made on demand and shipped straight to your door — easy, and convenient!

Even better? You get more choice! Most items allow you to select your own colours - pink hoodies for the bunheads! If you would like your name on your jumper, drink bottle, etc. to avoid it joining the lost property pile at the studio, then send us an email and we can add it for a small fee (custom order).

Please note that 6P is only adding a very small mark-up with each item to cover our Stripe fees and minimise your shipping costs - we just like people wearing some 6P love on their sleeve!

Schedule Update

We have had a few small changes to our schedule lately due to teacher availability. Please see below. You can download our update timetable HERE.

  • Veronica is teaching PBT on Tuesdays at 5:30pm in the city and Sundays 8:45am in the city now.

  • We are giving the lovely Tatiana her Fridays back, but have no fear! I will be taking over Tatiana’s PBT/ express lunchtime ballet class and combining into one class so you don’t have to use multiple class passes to get the benefits of both. The Friday night Vaganova class is combining to Tuesday night’s Int/Adv ballet class and replaced with regular repertoire courses! Starting after the Nutcracker chaos is finished, this enrolment course will commence on Friday 25th July and run for three weeks. It will be structured like the Hip Hop and Heels classes where you can enrol in the full three week course for a discount or just drop-in here and there. Sign up HERE.

  • Once Tatiana’s course has finished, another teacher may offer a new piece of repertoire for a different level for three weeks before Tatiana has another course. Who knows, you may even find the random Friday night dedicated to the ever popular Line Dancing, Date Night Dance classes with your loved one or some National Character fun!

  • Speaking of Repertoire… Swan Lake Workshop for Beginners! This workshop has been designed for our Beginner to Elementary-level students and has you learning the Pas de Trois variation from Swan Lake. Leah will film the variation at the end for our social media but as always, you are more than welcome to step out of this. Romantic and pancake tutus will be available to have you feeling like a true ballerina. Sign up HERE.

  • The lovely Georgie is taking over from Noah for the Tap Foundations and Beginner Tap rotation. Many of you know Georgie from Contemporary class and her excellent choreography mentor piece last year, but she’s also an advanced level tapper and super keen to get started with you all. Thanks Georgie!

  • After a successful video project, Maddi is keen to get back to basics with another Hip Hop Foundations course and Musicality for Heels again starting this Friday!

  • The next Ballet Foundations courses will be starting in July so if you’ve got a friend who says they’d love to try ballet, send them to us! Saturdays with Imogen & Angie are starting again on Saturdays, sign up HERE and Mondays with Noah are starting again on Monday 28th July, sign up HERE.

  • The Silver Swans class in the city is moving from Wednesdays to Fridays. If anyone has a parent or grandparents (or is around their 50’s themselves!) and would like to join, send them our way. This class is such a delight!

Cancellation Periods

We have seen a real increase over the course of this year in late cancellations. This is not ideal and whilst we do understand that adult life gets busy, it really isn’t fair to our teachers who plan their classes and sometimes wait all day to see if they are teaching. 6th Position realises that the dance industry is often run on the backs of underpaid teachers doing many unpaid hours of planning. That’s why we pay our amazing staff, above award wages as well as for their open and closing time at the studio. But this means that where classes do not have the required numbers, they need to be canceled with enough notice that the teacher (and students!) can get on with their own busy lives.

We are reinstating the four hour cancellation rule (it had changed to two hours) where you will forfeit your pass if you cancel within four hours of your class start time. For those on an unlimited subscription this makes no difference, so I’d really appreciate if you would adhere to this four hour rule. Momence does allow us to penalise repeat offenders but that is not something I’m keen to ever enforce as I know the majority of our community do the right thing. Thank you for your understanding!

Performance Opportunities

We have two exciting performance opportunities coming up soon!

Echoes Video Project

You will remember Georgie’s amazing choreography skills from our Iconic Concert last year. If you missed out on participating, now is your chance to get involved with her video project.

A 6-week course diving into movement, space and musicality—designed for all levels! Learn choreography, play with camera angles, and wrap it all up with a professional video shoot in week 6.

🗓 Wednesdays 7:30pm | July 9 – August 13

📍 Studio 2, Mitchell

💸 $180 (includes costume hire, videographer & more) payment plans available. Enrolment only. No drop-ins or memberships can be used.

Georgie's ready to create something beautiful! Sign up HERE.

Floriade Performance

We will be performing at Floriade again this year. Always a delightful way to say hell to Spring and warmer weather, this performance opportunity is always a lot of fun.

To avoid disruption to our regular drop-in classes, we will be holding separate classes over a short period of time to just warm-up and learn the pieces. There will be a small fee to cover your teacher’s time and costume hire. More information coming out soon!

Nutcracker Countdown!

Our amazing 2025 cast of The Nutcracker In July are set to take to the windy stage of the Christmas In July Festival this weekend. If you’d prefer to sit inside where it’s warm, we wouldn’t blame you! Tickets are still on sale for our theatre shows in what I’m told are the comfiest theatre seats in Canberra. We recommend it for date with a friend, it’s a wonderful way to spend a chilly day. You can your tickets HERE.

That’s all for now folks! Happy dancing!
