Studio News - July 2025
Hi dancers,
I can’t believe it’s the end of July! Where did that time go?!
A vast majority of it went towards Nutcracker and what a massive success it was - we all but sold out six shows! I’d like to once again thank our incredible volunteers who made this a dream experience. And to all those not participating who came to watch and support their peers! 6P’s community is always the best but it shined hard over the last month.
Ballet Repertoire Course
Tatiana’s repertoire course starts tonight and allows for drop-ins! As you may have seen in the last Studio News and on our socials, Tatiana is running a three week course for intermediate to advanced dancers to learn the Swanhilda variation. Three lessons allow lots of details to be explored but we know not everyone can make all three - so drop-ins are welcome too!
Keep you eyes peeled on our socials for the next repertoire variations to be explored and for which levels.
Schedule Update
We have had a few small schedule updates recently or coming up soon!
The Lyrical class is currently taking a four week break till 14th August to allow the RAD exam groups some extra practise in different spaces before their exam. Thanks Lyrical fam!
Thursday night Tap has left Petrie Studio and gone to Mitchell! Unfortunately our arrangement with The Movement Hub was not workable for future bookings so our gorgeous Thursday tappers have banded together to car pool and sort lifts for the south-siders. Did I mention our community is the BEST? If you’re a north-sider good news for you! Intermediate and Advanced Tap on Thursday nights is now at Mitchell - with free parking!
New Ballet Foundations Courses are starting tomorrow (Saturday mornings at Mitchell) and next Monday (lunchtimes in the city). You can sign up for those via the links above or under the ‘Enrolments’ section on our sign-up page.
Saturday’s Silver Swans time will move half an hour later to start at 10am. Good news for those of us who are NOT morning people! This change will come into effect on 23rd August. This is also the Swans class that will work towards a concert piece. We strongly encourage all those who feel brave enough to try it, to do so! Nobody has ever regretted doing the concert - but when they see so many happy dancers onstage, sometimes people have regretted not doing it.
New RAD levels are being offered soon! We wish our current examinees the very best of luck for four weeks time - we know you’ll make us all proud! After this time, new RAD ballet levels will be available to enrol in - and for Term 3 and 4 we will be allowing drop-ins! These are going to be at the single pass rate to still make it fair for those students who enrol in a whole term. This is a great way to see if the RAD ballet classes are something you’d like to enrol in - exams are absolutely not compulsory! The exercises stay the same each week being a syllabus so it’s a great way to improve your technique.
For Adv. Beginners to Elementary level dancers we recommend Discovering Repertoire Level 3! There are two classes/exams to sign ups for: Either the Class Unit which involves barre & centre work. And/or the Variation Unit which involves developmental exercises to prepare for the variation (dance), and then the variation itself which is from The Sleeping Beauty! Starting on Thursday nights, from 21st August.
For confident Elementary dancers and Intermediate level dancers, we recommend Grade 7. Known for its dynamic combinations and of course, national character work, the grade syllabi of RAD are a lot of fun! Starting on Saturdays, from 30th August.
For our advanced dancers, we recommend Advanced 2. The highest vocational grade offered by the RAD, this syllabi will really put you through your paces! Also starting on Saturdays, from 23rd August - one week earlier!
If you’re a total beginner and interested in a RAD level/exam for yourself, please express your interest via email!
Performance Opportunities!
We have two really exciting performance opportunities coming up!
Floriade!
We have a date for Floriade! Saturday 20th September we will be performing a 30 minute set at 4pm.
Emily has done an incredible job coordinating all the teachers busy schedules into a five week course to get stage ready! These courses will work on a piece of choreography to completion during the alloted times - and thankfully they don’t impact regular classes - thanks Em!
The cost to participate will be $150 per piece and that gives five 90 minute lessons as well as costume hire and photos to keep! You can sign up via the schedule below:
